How to read this result
Is your HS code on the Common High Priority List? Enter one code and get its CHPL tier with the source and version date. Free and no sign-up.
- The 50 HS subheadings of the US BIS Common High Priority Items List (23 February 2024 version)
- Accepts 6, 8 and 10 digit codes: HS, EU CN and US HTS
- Warns you when a heading holds listed codes you may have missed
How to read the result
- Listed · CHPL tier
- The first 6 digits of your code match a listed subheading. The tier tells you how high the priority is, Tier 1 being the highest. Apply enhanced due diligence to the buyer, the consignee and the destination of every sale of this item.
- Listed · annex
- The code is named in an EU Regulation 833/2014 annex or a US EAR Part 746 entry. Read the entry: it says which destinations and uses it covers.
- Not listed
- The subheading is not on the CHPL. Other controls may still apply, and the checker tells you when the same 4 digit heading holds listed codes, a common sign of a classification to double-check.
- Heading
- You entered 4 or 5 digits. The tool lists the CHPL codes under that heading; enter 6 digits for a precise answer.

CHPL check questions
How do I check if an HS code is on the CHPL?
Type the code in the form at the top of this page: 6 to 10 digits, dots and spaces are fine. The first 6 digits are compared with the 50 subheadings of the Common High Priority List, The result also names the EU and US control lists that cover the code.
Is HS code 8542.31 on the CHPL?
Yes. 8542.31, electronic integrated circuits used as processors and controllers, is in Tier 1, the highest priority. Every listed code has its own page in the table above.
Does the checker accept 8 or 10 digit codes?
Yes. The CHPL is written in 6 digit HS subheadings, which are the same in every country. Your CN (EU, 8 digits) or HTS (US, 10 digits) code is matched on its first 6 digits.
Which version of the CHPL does the checker use?
The version of 23 February 2024, transcribed from the US Bureau of Industry and Security list. The same codes are also screened as Annex XL of Regulation (EU) 833/2014. The date is shown with every result.
If my code is not on the CHPL, am I in the clear?
Not necessarily. The CHPL is a priority list, not the full scope of sanctions and export controls. Other goods are restricted, and the buyer and destination matter as much as the product.
How can a component distributor check a whole catalogue?
Import your catalogue into VetLane from Excel or CSV: every part is matched to the CHPL and the EU and US annexes, screened again when a list changes, with a dated record. The free pilot includes it.
Is anything I type sent to VetLane?
Yes. Every check is run by VetLane and recorded (the code, the result and a one-way fingerprint of your IP address, never the address itself) to keep a history and improve the service. HS code checks are never counted.
The product is one check out of three
A listed code tells you to look harder at who buys it and where it goes. VetLane screens your whole catalogue, every customer and every destination on a schedule, and keeps a sealed, dated record of each check.
